Tents today are loaded with great features so when shopping for a new tent the first question to ask yourself is what feature are most important to me? Do I want a really light tent, or is size and comfort more important?

Once you know what you want, then the next step is to test it out. Most of the reputable outdoor stores will let you set-up the tent in their store and try it out. If the tent does not have everything that you want, don’t compromise. The outdoor equipment market is large enough today that you should not have to compromise on what features you want in a tent.

Built for those quick weekend overnighters and day hikes galore, the waterproof Garmont Women’s Flash XCR Hiking Shoe is an all weather workhorse with a focus on comfort. Garmont’s anatomical fit components combine with the G3+ Spine structure to surround the foot in a snug, stable, and cushioned lightweight hiking boot. The thermal plastic urethane spine, which lies between the self-cleaning Vibram® outsole and the polyurethane midsole offers running shoe-like forefoot flex. Side to side, however, it gives the Women’s Flash XCR Hiking Shoe the underfoot stability necessary for walking on rough trails. For waterproof and breathable comfort, this versatile light hiker features a Gore-Tex® XCR® lining. The XCR stands for extended comfort range, as this liner is one of Gore’s more breathable membranes.

Built lean and exceptionally clean for climbing, mountaineering and dry weather skiing, Patagonia’s Lightweight R4® Jacket gives you superb windproof protection without trapping your mobility inside a bunch of constraining fleece. The design sandwiches warm Polartec® Windblock® fleece with a windproof laminate and dabs you dry with a lightweight and highly breathable R1® Polartec® Power Dry® lining. In key spots beneath the sleeves the R1® fabric doesn’t feature a laminate to allow vapor and moisture to escape quickly before it can condense on the inside of the Lightweight R4® Jacket. If you’re hiking, climbing or camping in cold and dry conditions, this jacket keeps you comfortable without a lot of extra layers, but keep a waterproof shell handy for any anticipated accumulations of rain and snow.

Anyone who has spent time hiking on the east coast knows about the need for a rain jacket that is waterproof, but also strong enough to handle the thorns, branches, and trunks that are frequently encountered.

In our opinion the best rain jacket to wear off-trail is the Marmot’s Impulse Jacket. This jacket is light, well-ventilated, has a decent waterproof-breathable material, and just as important it does not cost a fortune. Similar to the Impulse is Mountain Hardwear’s Cohesion Jacket, which, like the Impulse, uses a proprietary polyurethane-based laminate for good rain protection and adequate breathability.
